Tom Breen, produce merchant and wife Lydia built a 2 storey home here in 1908 aiming for a publican's licence close to the railway. The population did not then warrant a fourth pub. Tooths did a major conversion from 1925-26 to establish Hotel Canowindra.
The Canowindra Hotel began its life as a house in 1908 and, after being purchased by Tooheys in the 1950’s, its doors were open to the community and travellers. Canowindra is Wiradjuri (Aboriginal) for ‘home’ so it makes sense that we provide all the comforts of home at our establishment. Lunch and dinner are served seven days a week and there’s a large selection of spirits, ciders and wines plus seven types of icy cold beer on tap. Even your dog is welcome in our shaded beer garden! We look forward to welcoming you soon.
